If you want to see the most renowned landmarks in Prague, go along the Royal Route, a trail taken ages ago by the coronation parades of Czech kings and queens. It begins at Obecní dům and the Powder Tower, leading to Old Town’s Square, along the Charles’ Bridge across Vltava, trailing through the Lesser Side along the Baroque St. Nicholas church and up Nerudova street to the terrace in front of the Prague Castle, which offers a magnificent view of the whole city.

When touring the Prague Castle, the seat of Czech princes and kings, stop to see the beautiful Gothic cathedral of St. Vitus. The saints Cyril and Methodius are commemorated here on a faceted window in the New Archbishop’s Chapel with the central motif of early Christianity in Bohemia, designed by Alfons Mucha. It is one of the most sought-after artefacts at the Prague Castle.

The chapel houses the remains of Prague archbishops of the 20th century, including František cardinal Tomášek (1899–1992).
