The Pilgrimage Route of St. Cyril and Methodius Svatý Hostýn – Velehrad
Velehrad and Svatý Hostýn are the two most renowned pilgrimage sites in Moravia and at the same time the largest pilgrimage sites in the Czech Republic. They are connected by one of the St. Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage routes, listed in the European network of pilgrimage routes Cammini d’Europa, ceremoniously opened during the St. Cyril and Methodius celebrations in 2008. On this route you will find 25 wooden sheds with benches and panels depicting significant local personalities and nature in the area.
The pilgrimage route is 60km long and begins at the basilica in Svatý Hostýn, leading through Rusava and Lukoveček to Fryšták, passing the Zoo and chateau Zlín-Lešná it continues to the pilgrimage church in Zlín-Štípa. From Zlín the route leads to Svatá Voda (Holy Water) near Malenovice and on through Oldřichovice and Pohořelice to Napajedla, for several kilometres it leads along the river Morava and than through Huštěnovice, Jalubí and Modrá until its final destination – Velehrad.
