Other St. Clements’s Churches in Prague and Environs
St. Clement and his remains play an important role in the teaching of St. Cyril and Methodius not only in Great Moravia, but Bohemia as well. Churches consecrated to this saint rank among the oldest Church monuments and one part of the oldest parts of Old Town even bears his name – Svatokolimentská – around the Evangelical church of St. Clement. The first written notice of the church dates from 1226, but it may have been founded as early as 1065. Another church of St. Clement is at Prague’s Klementinum; its interiors are decorated with the Baroque sculptures of Matyáš Bernard Braun.
From the churches outside of Prague, that of St. Clement in Stará Boleslav is worth noting. A part of the masonry, including the apse, dates from the 11th century, the Romanesque murals dating from the third quarter of the 13th century depict the legend of St. Clement. It is supposedly the oldest depiction of this theme in the lands north of the Alps.
The fourth Baroque church of St. Clement is north of Prague over the old part of Odolena Voda.
