A church and a chapels in Velké Karlovice
This typical Wallachian village in the foothills of the Javorníky and Beskydy mountains features a number of original timbered buildings. The late Baroque wooden church of the Virgin Mary of the Snow from 1754, laid out in the shape of a Greek cross with a complex structure of peripheral walls with a total of 24 angles, attracts the most attention. It was built without any metal elements, the crystal chandeliers in the interior were donated to the church by Salomon Reich, the former owner of a nearby glassworks in Karolinka.
Nearby you will find a number of other interesting buildings, crosses, bell-towers, Calvarias and chapels, commemorating various events. Among them is the chapel at the crossroads Podťaté, built in 1866 in thanks for the averting of the cholera. Like the wooden bell-tower on the foothill of Miloňová, it is consecrated to the saints Cyril and Methodius, its gable adorned by an inscription in honour of the Slavic apostles of faith. The chapel of the Holy Trinity in Jezerné, the chapel and cross in Léskové or chapels at Javorníček and Strčková are worth noting as well.
